Hey everyone, nice to be a part of these forums.

So I've been thinking the last couple of days about how to get rid of pressurized tanks, everything from motorized belts to pistons and whatnot.

I finally came up with this, and I haven't worked out the numbers, nor am I in a state of mind to do it, but I'd like to post it to see if anyone thinks it's worthwhile:

How about using the principles of a coil gun to propel a hammer that pressurizes air

A) for each shot
B) stores it in an internal tank that transfers it to a valve.

I haven't thought about practicality yet, it's late here and I haven't had much sleep. Does it seem feasible to make a kit that would modify existing markers to use this system? Or does it seem better to create a new one? I would just go for a personal model and could make a prototype with the right amount of advice shopping for components. Would be open for any future enterprise and have some capital :D

Actually worked it out, and it could be done but very badly.

I think the alternative would be have a compressor and use a pressure, closer to what's needed for a single paintball shot, and have enough for 30 effective shots. Have that whole assembly in the stock of the marker

Then have a good enough rechargeable battery to be used for 1 refill of the tank, and put that in the magazine and have contacts on where it connects to the marker, so that changing magazines would effectively be changing batteries. I think it would be a good and ideal approach to a milsim marker, limited shots to 30 or such a number per magazine, and no huge tanks to carry around.

Sounds sorta-kinda like the Evolt concept...though I don't know too much about their specifics. Well not the coil gun part, but the charging for one ball part. lol

I suspect you'll be hard pressed to find a way to do it that's safe, convenient and desirable.

I try not to think about how much energy is sitting under my forearm when I'm running around playing paintball. Compressed gas is pretty effective, and very reliable.

Instead of trying to go tankless, I would try to figure out a way to make the energy density of something greater than compressed air. Propane is an example of that but has it's drawbacks.

like the fact that it's flammable? heh.

didn't the tippy C3 pump claim something ridiculous like 50,000 shots on a 16oz propane tank?

More like the heat generated when you burn it.
Too much heat and you'll have problems with the paint, I believe that's why Tippmann made the C3 a pump.
